Message from GSA Leaders: Physically Distancing and Socially Connecting

Hi friends!

We hope you all are safe and doing well. We just want to say hello, check in, and share some thoughts:

While we are socially connecting and physically distancing, we would like to remind everyone in the GSA community and the Kent Place community that we are still together, still supporting one another, and still here for each other. It’s important to stay connected with friends and family; make sure to reach out to others by phone, video call, text, or through social media. (And we would love to stay in touch with you, too… feel free to shoot one or both of us an email!)

Make sure to take care of yourself while in quarantine. Step outside in your backyard for some fresh air, follow a yoga flow on YouTube, try to get enough sleep, etc. Do what keeps you happy and healthy. Also, since self-care often involves relaxing with a snack and some good entertainment, we made a list of LGBTQ+ TV, movies, books, podcasts, and more that we love and want to share with you. Check it out here!

We also know that many people may be quarantined in an environment that is not affirming of LGBTQ+ identities. That can be really hard, and we want to make sure that you stay as safe, comfortable, and supported as possible during this time. Check out TrevorSpace, a free, online space to connect with other LGBTQ+ teens and allies. If you need additional support, we encourage you to use the Trevor Project’s other resources, like their confidential 24/7 hotline and their confidential textline. Finally, here’s an awesome article we love about strategies for quarantining in a non-LGBTQ+ environment (from them.us, with input from queer therapists and experts from The Trevor Project).

Get excited for more GSA stuff over the next few weeks! In the meantime, feel free to reach out if you have any thoughts, questions, suggestions, or just want to chat. (Also, if you’d like to help us plan digital Day of Silence, please email us or DM @gsakps on instagram.)

Finally, here’s a cute video to make you smile :)

Stay healthy, stay safe, stay calm, and keep finding little things to brighten your day!

♥ Jenna and Vivienne
