When artist Lara Atallah stepped into the Portfolio Art classroom she came equipped with stories of the Mediterranean and a smile. She was there to talk to the class’s students about her recent art show being held in the Kent Place Art Gallery. Atallah was born in Beirut and from a young age had been fascinated by the Mediterranean sea. This interest led her to create the ocean-based pieces for her show, which includes: altered Polaroid photographs, a narrative video installation, and cyanotype prints. Through art, Lara initiates a discussion as to the Mediterranean being a political landscape, just as much as it’s a natural one. In this video, Lara opens up about her inspiration for her art and what creation means to her.
