GSA

This week (9/24-9/28) is Ally Week! Ally Week is a national student-led effort to lead schools in conversations about how to be a good ally to the LGBTQ+ community. How are you a good ally? When do you speak up? When do you step back? How do you listen to LGBTQ+ voices and educate yourself about LGBTQ+ issues? Check out kpstarboard.com/gsa for our Ally Week Posters!

Latinx Heritage Month

Part 1: My name is Sofia, and I'm a Senior. I am half Cuban from my mom's side, and my grandparents are Cuban immigrants, so for me, how this country has given opportunities to immigrants and the conversation regarding immigration really hits home. To me, my Latinidad means tradition. Until I was 12, I didn't grow up in the United States. However, every Christmas and Summer break, I stayed at my grandparents’ house and was immersed in the Cuban culture through food, music, language, and traditions like Noche Buena. The Cuban culture became synonymous with home, which is still true today and every year that I've been able to further explore and embrace my Latinidad.

Part 2: Just a reminder to please come out to our Latinx Night on September 26 (Wednesday) from 5-7:30! Again, there will be food from many different countries, live music, games, and lots of dancing. We want to stress that this is not just an event for Latinos; Latinx Month is a time for everybody to celebrate this group of people together!

Math Department

Math Field Trip next Tuesday! It's math. There will be lots of humor, candy, and one coach bus. We'll be back by 1:30. Matt Parker says he'll sign your calculator. We'll hold him to it!

Mr. Fuentes

If you bring food in for advisory or any other purpose, you're responsible for cleaning it up before you leave for the day. This is especially true if you leave food in the lounge to share. If you know you're leaving early for sports or anything else right after school, clean up your food before you leave.

Ms. Murphy

Part 1: ID cards will be distributed today. On the back will be a scanner -- you will be able to scan to "sign in.” All issues should have been worked out.

Part 2: 10th graders, we will have PSAT info sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I will be sending out a Google Doc after MM; everyone is responsible to attend one session.

President’s Council

Back in 2014, our President's Council organized lunches with each of the freshmen advisories, and we felt that as freshmen, it was a really great way to bond as an advisory, ask questions to seniors, and overall have a good time with Presidents' Council. We were hoping to do the same thing with all of you these next couple of weeks! We sent out paperless posts; however, if you did not receive one or the date was messed up, we apologize and hope that you refer to this announcement to know what to do. On the day of your lunch, please come to the Commons room. Lunch will be provided. Dr. Laffey's advisory lunch is moved to October 12th, and Ms. Stevenson's advisory lunch is moved to October 15th.

Cross Country

Cross Country came in second place at the Jerry Hart Invitational. Many runners ran personal bests, and Miranda Lorsbach and Kaitlyn Szot each placed second in their respective race.
